Linux 6.1.187 is a longterm maintenance release focused heavily on security hardening and use-after-free/out-of-bounds fixes across USB, Bluetooth, HID, crypto, netfilter/xfrm, and filesystem subsystems (fuse, jfs, nilfs2, exfat, ext4). Notably, it fixes a use-after-free in usbfs's usbdev_release(), an out-of-bounds write in ALSA's snd_usbmidi_novation_output(), a slab out-of-bounds read in the USB serial option driver's interrupt URB callback, and an auth-trunc buffer leak in xfrm_state_construct(), along with several Bluetooth CIS/CIG handling and hci_sync UAF fixes. Other important updates include KVM s390/arm64/x86 fixes (stale crypto bits, vCPU event access, write tracking), networking corrections (RAW socket ICMP handling, SMC dst/RCU usage, mptcp memory leak, bridge multicast UAF), and multiple J1939 CAN and HID (ft260, magicmouse, uclogic) reliability fixes. The release also reverts a few previously problematic patches (smb client megabyte buffer allocation, mtd vmu-flash fixup, PM sleep complete() usage, fsl-usb UAF fix) and includes miscellaneous driver and subsystem corrections for riscv, bpf, drm/nouveau, and block I/O handling of zero-sized devices.
